A thorough and informative review of Leuchtturm journals at Lady Dandelion’s blog answers the question about notebook paper and fountain pen compatibility. Armed with Leuchtturm, Moleskin and Rhodia notebooks along with fountain pen and ink, she shares the results of writing in each journal. For those of you who love writing in journals with fountain pens, find out how Leuchtturm compare to the notebooks you are using now.
“As most people who like to write and are conscious about which pens they write with – I’m on a perpetual hunt for a real good notebook. I find it harder to find a good notebook with fountain pen friendly paper than to find a reasonably priced fountain pen with a pleasant nib or a beautiful ink. . .

Thanks f mention – good idea to collect favourite combos!
My current favourite notebook for journalling is the QV Habana – smooth white, fountainfriendly paper and a size that makes the pocket very usable. Pens vary from day to day, but an affordable contemporary fave is the Lamy Safari with a 1.1 mm italic nib. Ink? Rohrer and Klingner’s iron gall inks (Salix & Scabiosa) are faves – water resistant and beautiful and doesn’t feather on almost any papers. Iroshizuku and Diamine makes a lot of nice and well behaved inks too.
It would be nice to have a link to the actual post, not just the site.

DOH!! Didn’t even think of that!! Sorry.
No problem. It isn’t that obvious.

I use the Clairfontaine hardbound journal which has wonderful paper for fountain. Currently I’m using a Aurora Talentum with a medium italic nib and Noodler’s Blue Black ink.
I’m not too picky. Most decent notebooks work well for me – moleskine, piccadilly, rhodia, even some of the green, clothbound, gov’t memo books work ok (though, depending on what lot they are, they might have significant bleed through).
I use a Lamy EF nib with Noodler’s Eternal Luxury Blue & Fox Red.
I want to use this article in my website. Thats so useful.
Thanks for this article 🙂 Very useful… I’ve been looking for a decent notebook for ages 🙂 I think I’ll try out the Leuchtturm (in the past having assiduously used, rather unhappily, Moleskin). This week I’m writing with a Pelikan Souveran 800 and Herbin Anniversary Ink – which btw, is so beautiful :))
Try doing a search on etsy.com for “fountain pen friendly journal”. There are a lot of fine quality options out there that aren’t mass-produced.
