The book format is a medium that provides some interesting options because of its design. I couldn’t resist creating another pop-up using the symmetrical letter “V” that would capitalize on this situation.
The pop-up took four pages instead of two. The two outer pages were used as anchors to glue the backsides of the inner pages. This is what pulls the pop-up upright when you open the outer pages. I folded the outer corners of the two inside pages into the middle, overlapped them and glued them together to create the “V”. I added the illustration before I glued the pages because it was easier to draw on the unglued paper.
The rough textured background was created by pressing a stamp pad into the paper. On the outer pages, I had to use an acrylic fixative before I pressed the pad so the ink would not bleed through the back of the pages.
V-shaped flowers were glued on the backside of the big “V” so they would move forward when the page popped open. On the larger flowers I had to use wire to keep the flower heads from falling over.
